A Simple Guide to Clutter-free Christmas Gift Ideas

Let’s talk Christmas gifts.

Most of us love the festive season, but often what comes with it is the unnecessary clutter.

Think of all the ugly stuff you’ve been given and how you felt guilty for wanting to chuck it – don’t do the same to others!

Since you don’t want people to feel like that about your gifts, here are some clutter-free Christmas gift ideas:

An experience

A day out, spa day, or a fancy dinner. There’s really no end to creative ideas within this category and you can truly find weird and wonderful things out there. For example, my partner took me capybara feeding! It was one of the most incredible days ever!

Andre the capybara!

Something that can be consumed

For the alcohol connoisseur, try Cocktail Connoisseurs cocktail kits for bar-quality drinks at home. Good whisky or champagne also make great choices. Or go for a Christmas hamper, good quality coffee or an exquisite hand-crafted candle, e.g. from Arkadia Dalia (and you’ll be supporting a small business!) – I met the owner at the market in Shoreditch and almost bought all of them…they smell *delicious*!

Voucher

Sounds lame, but who doesn’t like free money to choose a product they will actually like and use? And it’s not just products – this could be services or even subscriptions (a year of Netflix anyone?). If they regularly get beauty treatments, find out where they normally go and see if the place offers gift vouchers. Botox & lip fillers ain’t cheap – I bet you they’d love a little contribution.

Audiobook

Go clutter-free with electronic or audiobooks. Even better, gift them an audiobook on decluttering! (yep, shameless plug!). Unfortunately, many people will be drowning in unwanted gift clutter after Christmas and struggle to let it go, mainly because of guilt. You know – ‘Ughh, my mother-in-law so lovingly gave me this monstrosity… I can’t possibly throw it away – what sort of heartless bitch would this make me?!”. Nah. You can let it go. Find out how.

Straight-up ask!

Inquire if they have a digital wishlist or simply ask what they’d want. Most people appreciate the effort to get them something they truly desire – especially the ones that despise clutter. And you’ll save yourself from that awkward ass exchange where they muster all of their energy to fake a smile a say ‘erm…thank you…this is…lovely….yay.’

Take notes

This is more of a next year prep, but take notes on hints dropped throughout the year. What they mention wanting casually can turn into a thoughtful gift months later!
